Gate News message, April 15 — Rakuten Wallet, the cryptocurrency platform operated by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, officially launched XRP today as a listed asset and payment method. Users can now purchase XRP directly with Rakuten Points and load XRP into Rakuten Cash for spending at over 5 million merchants across Japan.
Rakuten Pay, with 44 million users, is one of Japan’s leading e-commerce payment platforms. The integration exposes XRP to a large non-crypto user base. Users can convert Rakuten Points—over 3 trillion points issued, worth approximately $23 billion—directly into XRP.
Rakuten has more than 100 million members and processes 5.6 trillion yen in annual e-commerce transactions. XRP will now circulate as a consumable digital asset within the Rakuten ecosystem.
