Gate News message, April 15 — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revoked the green card of Seyed Eisa Hashemi, son of former Iranian Vice President Masoumeh Ebtekar, and arrested him on April 13, according to the New York Post. ICE stated that Hashemi and his wife had been living in a luxury mansion in the U.S. while holding university teaching positions.
Ebtekar served as spokesperson for revolutionary forces during the 1979 Tehran U.S. Embassy hostage crisis, making false claims about hostage treatment that drew widespread American condemnation. Hashemi entered the U.S. with his family in 2014 and obtained permanent residency in 2016.
The Trump administration previously revoked green cards for Hamideh Afshar, niece of IRGC commander Qasem Soleimani, on April 3, and Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani, daughter of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani. Afshar had posted photos on social media showing her affluent lifestyle in the U.S.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on X that Ebtekar was “a spokesperson for Islamic terrorists in 1979” and that “the Trump administration will not allow the U.S. to become a residence for anti-American terrorists or their families.”
