Trump said his wife reacted more quickly and appeared to recognize the situation immediately. He had not received any threat briefing before the dinner and expressed hope to continue holding the event, promising to reschedule it soon.

Trump referenced previous assassination attempts against him and called on Americans to “bridge differences.” He noted that lawmakers from both parties condemned the incident that evening and expressed gratitude to media personnel, saying they “reported very responsibly.”

When asked whether the shooting was connected to Iran tensions, Trump stated he did not believe so.
