UAE’s largest energy company executive: Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz constitutes a “global economic extortion”

GateNews

Gate News reports that on April 1, the head of the UAE’s largest energy company stated that Iran’s actions to blockade the Strait of Hormuz (one of the world’s most important oil transportation routes) and cut off energy supplies to the Middle East constitute “global economic blackmail.” In a post on LinkedIn, Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), said that the de facto closure of this vital waterway is a “threat the world cannot tolerate.” He stated, “The world must take action—together—to ensure the free flow of energy and maintain economic stability.” Al Jaber is also a government minister of the UAE and has been one of the country’s most outspoken business leaders in criticizing Iran and calling for the Strait to be reopened. Last month, he said that Iran is “weaponizing the flow of energy,” and he described this act as “economic terrorism.”
