If your child becomes a reader, approximately 80% of the educational work is already done. That is an honest assessment, based on the experience of many of us. Everything else is secondary. Most parents believe that scientific education is important. Yes, it is. But if you don't know how to read the biology textbook, you won't learn biology.

Reading is the meta-skill that enables all other skills. History requires reading. Science requires reading. Even mathematics increasingly requires reading as it becomes more sophisticated. The child who reads voraciously will understand everything else. The child who doesn't will struggle with everything.
