A mainland Chinese businessman was illegally detained and extorted in Hong Kong, resulting in losses of over HKD 6 million in cryptocurrencies and silver.

According to Mars Finance, TVB News reports that a 25-year-old mainland businessman claimed to have been illegally detained and extorted by four mainland men at a hotel in Hung Hom, Hong Kong. The suspects assaulted the victim and forced him to provide his electronic currency password, then transferred approximately $680,000 worth of cryptocurrency. The suspects later went to the victim’s company and took about 42 kilograms of silver goods, with total losses exceeding HKD 6 million. The victim was released in the early morning and reported the case to the police, sustaining injuries to his face, arms, and calves. The case is currently classified as illegal detention and extortion, under investigation by the Kowloon City Criminal Investigation Division.
