「The DAO 回來了！」對不少老幣圈玩家而言，這句話恐怕既熟悉又帶點陰影。以太坊元老級開發者、同時也是 The DAO 共同創辦人之一的 Griff Green，近日選擇正面迎戰這段歷史，宣布將把 2016 年 The DAO 駭客事件中、至今無人領回的資金，重新部署為全新的以太坊安全基金。
Griff Green 在接受知名區塊鏈記者 Laura Shin 專訪時透露，這筆資金原本是 2016 年 The DAO 遭駭後，預留給「邊緣案例（Edge Case）」受害者的退款資金。然而，隨著時間推移，約有 20% 的資金始終無人認領。當年這筆資產僅值 600 萬美元，到如今已暴漲至約 2 億美元。
「我們正式啟動 TheDAO 安全基金（TheDAO Security Fund），」Griff Green 表示，「基本上，這就是一堆躺在鏈上合約裡、本該退還給受害者卻沒人領的錢」。
根據官方部落格的說明，這筆新基金的將包含來自「ExtraBalance 提款合約」的 70,500 枚以太幣；以及來自 The DAO 的 Curator Multisig（多重簽章錢包）中的 4,600 枚以太幣及 DAO 代幣。這筆龐大的資產不會被直接花掉，而是透過質押產生收益來資助以太坊的安全建設。
「The DAO 回來了……這句話可能聽起來有點驚悚，但這次大家不用怕，」Griff Green 說道。
他指出，正是當年 The DAO 那場災難性的被駭事件，才催生了今日蓬勃發展的以太坊資安生態。如今，這筆源自駭客事件的剩餘資金，將聯手以太坊基金會（Ethereum Foundation），成為「上兆美元安全計畫（Trillion Dollar Security initiative）」的關鍵拼圖。
回顧歷史，The DAO 曾是區塊鏈史上最具代表性的實驗，2016 年以眾籌創投基金之姿，募得價值 1.5 億美元的以太幣，卻在數周後遭駭客洗劫，最終引發是否「回滾區塊鏈」的激烈爭論，並促成社群分裂成如今的以太坊、以太坊經典。
儘管 The DAO 事件提升了智能合約的安全性，但 Griff Green 表示，對於一般使用者來說，安全問題至今仍是最大痛點。他說：
