網路傳出以色列對伊朗發動「預防性」軍事攻擊，中東地緣政治風險再度急劇升溫。雖然消息並未得到西方主流媒體證實，但消息傳出後，比特幣在短時間內跌破 6.5 萬美元關口，加密貨幣市場全面承壓。
此次事件背景可追溯至近數週的緊張升級，美國在約旦穆沃費格薩勒提空軍基地已部署超過 60 架軍用飛機，數量約為平時的三倍，創下數十年來中東地區最大規模軍事集結。美伊雙方雖於 2 月 26 日在日內瓦展開第三輪間接核談判，但美方要求伊朗停止鈾濃縮，伊方則堅持濃縮權利，談判未取得實質突破。
Bloomberg 在 2 月 27 日報導指出，川普政府與伊朗的對峙已進入「最終階段」（endgame），雙方正在探索避免軍事行動的最後機會，而若談判破裂，美國的打擊行動，可能在以色列的協助下展開。
