Flow Foundation announces the permanent destruction of 87.4 billion counterfeit FLOW tokens on January 31, officially concluding the security incident resolution that occurred at the end of 2025. The incident originated from a security breach on December 27, 2025, which negatively impacted the ecosystem and resulted in approximately $3.9 million in damages.
The complete removal of counterfeit tokens is overseen by the Community Governance Committee to ensure transparency and integrity of the network. This move is considered a significant step in helping Flow restore user and developer trust, as well as improving the “health” of transactions on the network.
After the incident, the Flow network has shown clear signs of recovery, processing over 3 million transactions per week. In the upcoming period, Flow Foundation states it will focus on expanding the ecosystem and strengthening security to prevent similar risks in the future.
