Chilean Ministry of Health announced on the 23rd that the death toll from the natural gas truck explosion in the capital city on the 19th has risen to 10, with 11 injured still hospitalized, including 7 in critical condition. The natural gas truck overturned and exploded violently on a highway in Renca, a district of Santiago, on the 19th, killing 4 people that day. The explosion affected nearby vehicles on the road and a parking lot, destroying many cars and setting surrounding buildings on fire. The Chilean Ministry of Health stated that in the days following the incident, several more injured individuals succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to 10. Preliminary analysis by Chilean prosecutors based on surveillance footage suggests that the accident may have been caused by the driver losing control and overturning due to speeding, leading to a leak of liquefied natural gas and an explosion.
