## Aeolus Platform: Real-Time Conductor Insight Stream Transforms Overhead Line Monitoring
PLP has officially launched Aeolus, a game-changing platform that brings laboratory-grade analytics to real-world transmission infrastructure. This isn't just another monitoring tool—it's a complete reimagining of how engineers analyze wind-induced conductor motion.
**What Makes Aeolus Different**
The system deploys lightweight sensor nodes across transmission line spans to capture comprehensive data streams on conductor behavior, including aeolian vibration, wake-induced oscillations, galloping, and atmospheric icing effects. All this information flows through wireless data hubs to secure cloud servers, creating a continuous conductor insight stream accessible to engineers worldwide via a web-based dashboard.
"We're essentially turning every transmission line into a full-scale testing laboratory," explains Jean-Philippe Paradis, Aeolus Program Lead. The modular sensor design and next-generation analytics make it possible to assess newly installed damping systems and investigate line failures with unprecedented precision—all from a computer screen.
**Real Commercial Momentum**
After successful field trials across the United States and Europe, Aeolus entered commercial service this spring with over 20 projects already scheduled for 2024. The platform will be showcased at the IEEE PES T&D Expo and other industry conferences throughout the year.
According to Ryan Ruhlman, President of PLP, the platform democratizes what was once expert-only analysis: "Engineers now get laboratory-like conductor insight without leaving their office." This represents a significant shift in how utilities approach infrastructure reliability and maintenance planning, potentially reducing downtime and extending asset lifespan through data-driven decision making.
