How Intapp is Reshaping Professional Workflows with Vertical AI and the "Intelligence Applied" Strategy
Intapp has entered a new chapter in its mission to embed artificial intelligence into the daily operations of professionals across advisory, legal, and capital markets industries. On February 22, 2024, the company unveiled a comprehensive suite of AI-driven capabilities, a rebranded identity centered on “Intelligence Applied,” and strategic acquisitions designed to position itself as a leader in vertical AI solutions.
The Professional Productivity Crisis
Market research conducted alongside this announcement reveals a significant untapped opportunity: professionals in accounting, consulting, finance, and legal services estimate that nearly 40% of their work consists of repetitive, manual tasks—data entry, meeting note summarization, document generation, and research compilation. Despite this widespread pain point, fewer than half of surveyed professionals report having actually deployed AI tools in their workflows. The gap highlights a critical need for industry-specific AI solutions tailored to the regulatory and operational constraints these sectors face.
Intapp Assist: Bringing Generative AI to Deal Professionals
At the core of Intapp’s product expansion is Intapp Assist for DealCloud, a generative AI engine now in general availability. Rather than a one-size-fits-all tool, it addresses the precise workflows of deal professionals and capital markets teams by automating four key functions:
Relationship signals deliver AI-powered intelligence feeds that surface actionable insights about a professional’s network. These system-generated nudges inform personalized outreach strategies and help dealmakers allocate business development time more strategically.
Detailed summarization converts unstructured data—transcripts, meeting notes, client communications—into clean, editable summaries. This capability accelerates information consumption while preserving knowledge across the firm.
Narrative generation allows professionals to quickly author descriptive content and commentary within DealCloud, reducing manual documentation time and improving data quality firmwide.
Contextual email outreach leverages firm history, relationship intelligence, and real-time market data to craft targeted communications, enabling professionals to engage prospects with greater relevance and speed.
Expanding the Data Infrastructure
Recognizing that AI’s value depends on data quality, Intapp launched Intapp Data—a proprietary firmographic dataset encompassing 85 million companies and 200 million contacts now accessible to all DealCloud customers. The platform enhances user discovery, network expansion, and opportunity origination by integrating third-party data from Intapp’s partner ecosystem.
This data initiative is further strengthened by Intapp’s acquisition of delphai, an AI software company specializing in transforming public data into structured, verified firmographic insights. By integrating delphai’s technology and team, Intapp aims to accelerate its data and AI roadmap while deepening partnerships with enterprise clients.
AI Compliance in Regulated Industries
A defining challenge for firms in legal, capital markets, and accounting is maintaining strict data governance while leveraging generative AI. John Hall, CEO of Intapp, emphasized this tension: “We are redefining its application to help professionals spend more time applying their expertise and developing relationships, and less time on manual tasks.”
To address compliance complexity, Intapp introduced Intapp Walls for Copilot, which integrates with Microsoft Copilot to provide firms with visibility and control over which data sources the AI model can access. The solution translates complex overlapping access rules into native security controls, ensuring that sensitive client information remains protected even as professionals benefit from generative AI capabilities.
Donald Kossman, Vice President for Copilot at Microsoft, noted: “Intapp Walls for Copilot is an exciting development that helps capital markets, legal, and advisory firms both leverage the generative AI power of Microsoft Copilot and further preserve the deep trust with their clients.”
Transforming Business Development Through AI
Intapp announced the Activator experience, an AI-powered business development solution co-developed with DCMi (drawing on The Rainmaker Genome Project). The platform provides professionals with dynamic dashboards displaying current deal pipelines, origination fees by practice area, and progress against billing targets. AI-generated signals and alerts guide professionals to adopt “Activator behaviors”—research-backed methodologies for successful client engagement and relationship building.
A New Brand for the AI Era
Accompanying these product announcements, Intapp unveiled a refreshed brand identity. The new logo and website positioning reflect “Intelligence Applied”—a framework signaling the company’s commitment to embedding AI not as a generic overlay but as a deeply integrated, industry-compliant system. CMO Scott Fitzgerald explained: “It signals our commitment to the intelligent application of AI to unlock the expertise within professional firms to capture opportunity.”
The rebrand underscores Intapp’s differentiation: while generative AI captures headlines, Intapp focuses on solving the specific, regulated workflows of capital markets, legal, consulting, and accounting professionals. By combining vertical expertise, data infrastructure, and compliance safeguards, Intapp positions itself as the platform of choice for firms seeking to unlock AI’s productivity promise without regulatory or reputational risk.
