Healthcare Practice Management Gets an AI Upgrade: AdvancedMD's 2025 Summer Release Tackles Automation and Efficiency
AdvancedMD just dropped a major product update, and it’s clear they’re betting big on artificial intelligence to reshape how medical practices operate. The 2025 Summer Product Release introduces 20 significant enhancements across their cloud-based platform—but the real story is how aggressively they’re embedding AI throughout their practice management, EHR, and patient engagement tools.
The AI Play: Turning Data Into Automation
The headline feature? AI-generated SOAP notes. The system can now pull data from patient records and automatically format them into structured SOAP notes, saving clinicians time on documentation—arguably one of the biggest pain points in modern healthcare. This isn’t just about speed; it’s about freeing up cognitive load so providers can focus on actual patient care.
But this is just the opening move. AdvancedMD’s Senior Vice President of Product, Tim Costantino, emphasized the company’s philosophy: “We’re focused on building smart, AI-enabled automations that drive productivity across the entire practice.” The strategy makes sense given the market momentum—according to recent AMA research, 66% of physicians already use AI tools in their practice, up dramatically from 38% just a year prior. Two-thirds of physicians see definite or some advantage to AI implementation, signaling strong physician receptiveness.
Workflow Improvements That Actually Matter
Beyond AI, the update addresses concrete friction points:
Patient Portal Redesign: Navigation has been rebuilt from scratch. Simpler workflows mean patients spend less time hunting for information and more time completing tasks—a small change with outsized impact on patient experience.
Medication Management: The updated medication request workflow consolidates prescription handling, reducing delays when pharmacies submit requests. The addition of automated physician care notifications (flagging discontinued meds, recalls, and clinical outcomes) creates a safety layer most practices currently handle manually.
Patient Data Deduplication: The new Patient Merge feature tackles a surprisingly persistent problem—duplicate patient records. Consolidating patient data into a single record automatically rolls up appointments, transactions, and chart information, eliminating a common source of billing and clinical errors.
Discharge Automation: Providers can now add discharge status to appointments, with AI-enabled logic automatically populating that information in outgoing clinical messages. This is particularly valuable for hospital systems managing complex care transitions.
Clearinghouse Flexibility as Competitive Move
AdvancedMD also announced a partnership with Waystar Clearinghouse, positioning it as the preferred clearinghouse for their users. This move directly responds to industry turbulence around Change Healthcare, offering practices a viable alternative for claims management. Early adopters report positive outcomes, suggesting the integration is working smoothly.
Rollout and Access
The Summer Product Release is being deployed incrementally starting June 10, with additional waves on June 17 and June 26. The company has published full documentation and executive videos on their website at advancedmd.com to help practices understand the new capabilities.
Why This Matters
What’s interesting about this release isn’t any single feature—it’s the systematic approach to automation. AdvancedMD is addressing the operational pain points that actually sink healthcare productivity: documentation burden, workflow fragmentation, data quality issues, and patient friction. By embedding AI across multiple workflows rather than bolting it on as an afterthought, they’re making a credible bet that automation can meaningfully improve practice efficiency. The fact that physician AI adoption is already at two-thirds and climbing suggests the market is ready for this kind of integration.
