Hassane El-Khoury Takes Leadership Helm at ON Semiconductor with Track Record in Semiconductor Transformation
ON Semiconductor has appointed Hassane El-Khoury as its new president and chief executive officer, effective December 7, 2020. El-Khoury, who brings proven expertise in leading semiconductor industry transformations, joins the board of directors alongside his executive responsibilities.
A Leader Shaped by Industry Experience
El-Khoury’s appointment comes after a thorough evaluation process targeting an executive capable of navigating the semiconductor industry’s ongoing transformation. Prior to joining ON Semiconductor, he led Cypress Semiconductor as president and CEO until the company’s acquisition by Infineon in April 2020. During his 13-year tenure at Cypress, El-Khoury progressed through multiple roles encompassing business unit management, product development, applications engineering and business development—providing him with comprehensive knowledge of semiconductor operations.
His educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Lawrence Technological University and a master’s degree in engineering management from Oakland University. El-Khoury received Silicon Valley’s prestigious 40 under 40 recognition in 2018 and currently serves on the board of KeraCel.
Strategic Vision for Growth and Performance
The board sees El-Khoury as the right leader to capitalize on ON Semiconductor’s potential across key market segments. “Following a thorough internal and external evaluation process, Hassane emerged as the clear choice to execute the company’s strategic objectives,” said Alan Campbell, board chairman. “He understands the industry transformation taking place and possesses the vision necessary to strengthen our market position in secular growth sectors.”
El-Khoury emphasized his philosophy during his appointment: “A company achieves its greatest success when it mobilizes its people to solve customer problems. ON Semiconductor possesses a diversified product portfolio of essential semiconductor components enabling solutions across multiple markets. I’m committed to leveraging this foundation to deliver advanced systems solutions in automotive, industrial, cloud infrastructure and IoT applications while driving improved financial results.”
Transition from Prior Leadership
This leadership transition marks the conclusion of Keith Jackson’s nearly two-decade run as ON Semiconductor’s CEO and president. During his tenure, Jackson steered the company’s evolution from a $1.2 billion standard products supplier into a $5.5 billion enterprise ranking among the global semiconductor industry’s top twenty players. Jackson will remain as an advisory consultant through May 2021 to facilitate a seamless leadership handoff.
“On behalf of our global workforce, we acknowledge Keith’s two decades of strategic leadership and his instrumental role in building ON Semiconductor into an industry leader,” Campbell noted. “His insights during the transition period will prove invaluable as El-Khoury assumes full operational command.”
ON Semiconductor, trading on Nasdaq under the ticker ON, operates comprehensive manufacturing, sales and design infrastructure across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific regions. The company specializes in energy-efficient power management, analog, sensors, logic, timing, connectivity and custom semiconductor solutions serving automotive, communications, computing, consumer, industrial, medical, aerospace and defense sectors.
