Emerson Restructures Executive Team: Mark Bulanda Takes Automation Solutions Helm

Emerson (NYSE: EMR), the St. Louis-based global technology and industrial software firm, has unveiled significant organizational changes aimed at strengthening its market position and operational efficiency. The moves mark a strategic realignment within the company’s leadership structure as it navigates the evolving industrial technology landscape.

Mark Bulanda Elevated to Lead $11.2 Billion Division

Mark Bulanda is stepping into the role of executive president of Automation Solutions, overseeing the company’s $11.2 billion flagship business unit. The appointment positions Bulanda at the helm of one of Emerson’s most critical divisions, which serves process, hybrid, and discrete manufacturers globally.

Bulanda brings nearly four decades of experience within Emerson, having joined the organization in 1985. His career trajectory reflects steady progression through multiple disciplines—from his early roles in sales and marketing through leadership positions in motor products, industrial automation, and acquisition strategy. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of planning and development. His extensive background in shaping Emerson’s software-focused acquisition strategy is expected to drive continued expansion within the Automation Solutions portfolio.

“Mark has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout his Emerson career,” said Chief Executive Officer Lal Karsanbhai. “His key role in helping shape Emerson’s strategic acquisitions toward more software gives him unique insight into every market that we serve.”

Ram Krishnan Transitions to Chief Operating Officer

Ram Krishnan, previously leading the company’s Final Control division, has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer—a position overseeing global supply chain operations, information technology, and mergers and acquisitions. Krishnan will join Emerson’s Office of the Chief Executive, serving as a strategic advisor on global business development.

Krishnan’s appointment reflects his success transforming Final Control into a world-class operation following Emerson’s $3.15 billion acquisition of Pentair’s valves and controls business in 2017. His background spans both Automation Solutions and Commercial & Residential Solutions divisions, providing insight across the company’s operational ecosystem.

The COO role vacated by Steve Pelch, who led the position since 2018, marks the transition of the organization’s operational leadership structure.

Strategic Implications for Operations and Growth

The leadership restructuring positions Emerson to accelerate its operational efficiency while Mark Bulanda’s appointment strengthens the company’s ability to capitalize on digital transformation opportunities within its core markets. Both executives bring complementary expertise that aligns with Emerson’s strategy of creating sustainable value across industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.

These changes reflect the company’s commitment to maintaining competitive advantage through experienced, internally-developed leadership while positioning the organization for continued innovation in automation, process optimization, and sustainability solutions.
