Darling Ingredients Finalizes $1.1 Billion Valley Proteins Deal, Expands Renewable Feedstock Portfolio
Darling Ingredients Inc. (NYSE: DAR), a major player in transforming food waste into sustainable energy and products, has successfully closed its acquisition of Valley Proteins, a prominent independent rendering firm in the U.S. market. The transaction, initially announced last December, carries a purchase price of $1.1 billion subject to standard closing adjustments.
Strategic Expansion Through Valley Proteins Integration
The acquisition brings 18 rendering and used cooking oil processing facilities across the southern, southeastern, and mid-Atlantic regions under Darling’s operational umbrella. This expansion marks a significant move to strengthen the company’s feedstock capabilities for the booming renewable diesel sector.
“Adding Valley Proteins to our organization is a pivotal step,” noted Randall C. Stuewe, the company’s Chairman and CEO. “Their established network in rendering and cooking oil recovery directly enhances our competitive position while giving us greater capacity to source low-carbon feedstocks that meet accelerating renewable fuel demand.”
Darling’s Broader Sustainability Impact
The global waste-to-value leader currently operates 250 manufacturing facilities spanning 17 countries. Through its comprehensive recycling efforts, Darling Ingredients repurposes approximately 10% of global meat industry waste, converting it into renewable diesel, green energy, collagen-based products, fertilizers, animal proteins, and pet nutrition ingredients.
This Valley Proteins acquisition underscores Darling’s commitment to capturing additional waste streams and scaling renewable energy production capabilities across North America’s protein processing infrastructure.
