Ethereum and Solana laid the foundation for the DeFi reboot in 2026
2025 will be the year of major Layer-1 network integrations, with institutional users on Ethereum surging, and scalability steadily advancing. Builders see interoperability as the key challenge for 2026. Solana conducted stress tests on its network and strengthened infrastructure this year, laying the foundation for more advanced financial application scenarios. One of Ethereum’s focuses is to simplify Layer-2 interoperability, with Mike Silagadze of ether.fi and others emphasizing progress in scalability and the role of the digital asset library (DAT). After experiencing turbulence in 2024, Solana significantly improved its performance in 2025. Lucas Bruder of Jito Labs stated that its operation is “extremely smooth.” The network is preparing for the Alpenglow upgrade launching in 2026, which is expected to reduce transaction finalization time from about 13 seconds to approximately 1 second, aiming to better position Solana as a high-throughput financial network.
