Source: PortaldoBitcoin Original Title: Maduro is in the same prison where Sam Bankman-Fried spent nearly two years Original Link: A prison where Nicolás Maduro is held in New York is the same where Sam Bankman-Fried, creator of the FTX exchange, served part of his sentence. The maximum-security federal prison Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) Brooklyn is located in the neighborhood of the same name and is notorious for being a place where celebrities await trial or serve time.
Sam Bankman-Fried arrived at MDC Brooklyn in August 2023, while awaiting trial. In March 2024, he was sentenced to 25 years for fraud related to the management of FTX and remained in the New York federal prison.
By March 2025, the former crypto executive was transferred to a prison in Oklahoma. Rumors at the time suggested that the transfer was a punishment, as 20 days earlier Sam had given, without judicial approval, an interview to The Tucker Carlson Show.
The MDC has previously housed famous individuals such as rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, socialite Ghislaine Maxwell (ex-partner of Jeffrey Epstein), cartel boss Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, and José Maria Marin, former president of the CBF.
The prison was founded in 1990 and currently houses 1,336 inmates, with cells monitored 24 hours a day.
Maduro will answer for crimes of conspiracy to narcoterrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and explosive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns.
