Ledger data breach again: Payment provider Global-e reports security incident, user personal information accessed improperly

Abstract generation in progress

【Blockchain Rhythm】Ledger has encountered another issue. Recently, the community reported that this longstanding hardware wallet provider experienced a data breach again, and this time the source was traced back to their payment service provider Global-e.

Affected Ledger users received an email notification from Global-e today, stating that their network systems had recently been found to have abnormal activity. After the anomaly was detected in their cloud system, Global-e immediately took emergency measures to block and isolate the issue. They also engaged an independent forensic company to investigate, and the results showed that some users’ personal data, including names and contact information, had been improperly accessed.

This is not the first time Ledger has faced security issues related to data safety. What does the exposure of users’ personal information mean? At the very least, your real identity and phone number may now be circulating on the black market, greatly increasing the risks of phishing scams and impersonation of official entities. For those holding digital assets, such data leaks often serve as a prelude to targeted scams.

If you are a Ledger user, you need to be more vigilant now—be cautious of emails and calls claiming to be from official sources, as your personal information is no longer secure.

ngl ledger's security track record is getting worse, not better. third-party vendors really are the weakest link nobody wants to talk about... as i always tell my students, this is exactly why self-custody infrastructure needs fundamental redesign. the entire supply chain is compromised.

Damn, Ledger is back? I was just wondering when I would get phone scams, and now it's happening directly. No way, hardware wallets are no longer safe, so what am I holding coins for? That trash payment provider Global-e actually dragged down Ledger. Where's the promised security? It's really unbelievable. My phone number might have been resold dozens of times on the black market. Ledger's reputation is completely ruined. Everyone, switch wallets. This time, I really can't think of any way to defend it. It's a direct flaw.

Coming again? Ledger is trying to make us all switch to fishing. --- Global-e? Never heard of it, but since it can help Ledger take the blame, it must not be that great. --- What's the point of a hardware wallet? I lost the private key, why would I still buy it? --- In the black market, my information is probably already being sold wholesale. --- Daily security incidents—it's better to just store your assets in a paper wallet yourself. --- This time, it's not Ledger's fault; they really nailed the scapegoat. --- After personal information leaks, I still get phishing calls. This business is doomed. --- Why do only these kinds of companies have issues? Small exchanges are fine. --- Global-e's scapegoat performance is perfect. Ledger should give out a bonus. --- Wait, did I transfer money to Ledger before? I need to check my bills.

Damn, did Ledger mess up again? Now even the payment providers can't be trusted Name and phone number are both leaked, I suspect my phone is now being bombarded If Ledger keeps messing up like this, I really have to change wallets. Hardware security is useless if it's compromised How can I trust this? The black market might still be selling my information right now Payment provider vulnerability? What era are we in that it's still so unreliable

Damn, Ledger is at it again? If hardware wallets aren't secure, why should I buy anything? This time blaming the payment providers is just too ridiculous; it's obviously the users taking the fall. Name and phone number are all leaked, now just waiting to receive scam calls, it's really unbelievable. Every supplier is like this, no wonder everyone is switching to self-custody. It's already 2024 and the leaks keep happening; Ledger's reputation is just like this.
