Shiba Coin: From Meme Token to Promising Project
Current Status of Shiba Coin in 2025
Shiba (SHIB) is one of the most attention-grabbing digital assets worldwide, especially after its rapid rebound in late 2024. In early 2025, the price of Shiba remains volatile within the range of $0.00001200 to $0.00001500. The current market is in accumulation phase, indicated by decreased trading volume compared to previous periods. Long-term investors may consider gradual accumulation via (DCA) during this time.
Origin and Development of the Project
Shiba Coin was launched in August 2020 with the initial purpose of parodying Dogecoin. The founding team, using the pseudonym “Ryoshi,” designed this coin to be a community-driven project. At launch, Ryoshi transferred 50% of the tokens to Uniswap to increase liquidity and permanently destroyed the Private Key. The remaining half was transferred to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum.
An interesting event is that Vitalik not only burned 90% of the received Shiba tokens but also donated a massive amount, (worth approximately $1 billion), to aid India during the COVID-19 pandemic. This significantly reduced the circulating supply and drew further interest to the project.
How Shiba Works
Shiba uses the Ethereum blockchain, meaning the token operates on a highly secure and stable network. Originally, Ethereum used the Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism but has upgraded to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) through ETH 2.0, an environmentally friendly update.
Importantly, Shiba is an ERC-20 standard token, allowing developers and investors to create various applications and functionalities via Smart Contracts. The total supply is 1 quadrillion tokens, an enormous amount.
ShibaSwap Ecosystem and Usage
The Shiba team developed ShibaSwap, a decentralized exchange (DEX), enabling token holders to perform swapping, staking, and yield farming independently. The ecosystem also supports two additional tokens, Leash and Bone, adding diversity to the platform.
Beyond platform use, Shiba tokens are accepted at numerous physical locations. By the end of 2021, over 500 merchants accepted Shiba payments through the Coingate payment service.
Why It’s Called “Dogecoin Killer”
Shiba is dubbed the “Dogecoin Killer” because it has outperformed Dogecoin in popularity and market performance. The project gained further recognition when its price doubled after appearing on Elon Musk’s SNL show.
A strong community, “SHIBArmy,” and effective marketing have fueled its popularity. Trading volumes once exceeded $8 billion in 24 hours, reflecting high market interest.

Summary
Shiba is not just a meme phenomenon but has grown into a project with real utility, including Layer 2 scaling solutions, DeFi ecosystem, and an active community. It has growth potential, but investors should be aware of risks and avoid investing funds they cannot afford to lose.
As Shiba strives to prove its long-term value, success will depend on Shibarium adoption, continuous innovation, and maintaining community trust. Opportunities and risks coexist, so investment decisions should be based on thorough research and personal risk assessment.
