Spring Festival Travel Rush 2026: Cross-Regional Movement Reaches 359 Million Trips

According to data from the Comprehensive Transportation Spring Festival Travel Work Group, on February 21, 2026 (the 20th day of the Spring Festival, Lunar New Year’s Day, Saturday), the total cross-regional passenger flow reached 35,965,100 people, a month-on-month increase of 1.9% and an 11.7% rise compared to the same period in 2025.

Among them, railway passenger volume was 17,187,000, a 11.8% increase from the previous month and a 17.7% increase year-on-year; total road transportation passenger flow was 33,804,000, up 1.5% month-on-month and 11.4% year-on-year, including 3,089,000 for commercial road passenger services (up 9.6% month-on-month and 4.4% year-on-year), and 30,715,000 non-commercial small vehicle trips on highways and national/provincial roads (up 0.8% month-on-month and 12.1% year-on-year).

Waterway passenger volume was 181,700, a 10.6% decrease from the previous month but still a 28.1% increase year-on-year; civil aviation passenger volume was 260,700, a slight increase of 1.3% month-on-month and a 7.4% rise year-on-year.

Overall, during the Spring Festival travel period, passenger flow remains active, with multiple transportation modes working together to support holiday travel demand.
