According to Reuters, French utility company Engie is evaluating the deployment of energy storage systems or Bitcoin mining data centers at its Assu Sol photovoltaic plant in northeastern Brazil, with a capacity of 895 MWp, to mitigate the impact of curtailment on project revenue; since 2023, due to insufficient grid absorption capacity, rapid growth in renewable energy installations, and expansion of distributed photovoltaics, Brazil's photovoltaic and wind power projects have generally faced curtailment pressures. The company is exploring localized electricity use (including mining or energy storage) to improve utilization, but the related plans are still expected to take several years to implement.
