Violent clashes occur in Mexico; Spain advises citizens in Mexico to take precautions.

On February 23rd local time, due to violent clashes in multiple areas of Mexico, the Spanish Embassy in Mexico advised Spanish citizens in Mexico to “take extreme precautions” and avoid crossing at border crossings between Mexico and the United States. According to a report from the Mexican Ministry of Defense on the 22nd, Mexican armed forces conducted an arrest operation against drug traffickers in Tapalpa, Jalisco. The leader of the “New Generation of Jalisco” drug cartel, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, refused to surrender and was injured; he died en route to the hospital. Following the operation, several states including Jalisco, Michoacán, Colima, and Guanajuato experienced road blockades and vehicle burnings. Reports indicate these violent acts were retaliations by drug cartels against military actions. (CCTV News)
