The National Health Commission held a press conference today to introduce the progress of public service projects for the people. Jiao Yahui, Director of the Department of Primary Healthcare at the National Health Commission, stated that children’s medical care concerns every family. By 2025, all 4,845 secondary and tertiary public general hospitals across the country will be able to provide pediatric services. Additionally, 40,000 township health centers and community health service centers will be able to offer diagnosis and treatment for common and frequently occurring childhood illnesses. This year, the National Health Commission will further expand primary pediatric diagnosis and treatment services. Primary institutions capable of providing pediatric care will be encouraged to enrich their service content and expand service items. Furthermore, 1,000 more township health centers and community health service centers will offer pediatric diagnosis and treatment services. This not only reflects the continuity of work but also consolidates and deepens last year’s efforts. The National Health Commission will strengthen work in the following areas: First, improve staffing and equipment at primary healthcare institutions to enhance accessibility and convenience of pediatric services. Second, promote the sinking and stationing of personnel through the construction of tightly integrated medical consortia, prioritizing the development of pediatrics and related departments at township health centers and community health service centers to standardize and homogenize pediatric services. Third, enhance training in pediatric diagnosis and treatment skills and update knowledge to improve the capacity to treat common and frequently occurring childhood illnesses. Fourth, encourage capable primary healthcare institutions to establish independent pediatrics departments, expand medication supplies, optimize service processes, and offer weekend clinics and traditional Chinese medicine services for children, continuously improving the healthcare experience for the public.
