Stripe co-founders Patrick Collison and John Collison stated in their annual open letter that as AI Agents gradually become the primary executors of internet transactions, on-chain transaction demand could increase significantly. Future blockchain networks may need to support over 1 million TPS, or even reach 1 billion TPS to meet demand. They noted that current blockchain infrastructure still has a significant scalability gap, citing an example where last year, a mainstream public chain's memecoin trading frenzy caused Stripe's Bridge users to experience payment delays of over 12 hours, and the cost of a single transaction soared by 35 times.
