According to reports, Meta is restarting its cryptocurrency project and soliciting new stablecoin proposals from companies like Stripe to revive its troubled Libra project. Libra was initially announced in 2019 with the goal of creating a global stablecoin backed by a basket of fiat currencies and supported by multiple large enterprises. However, in the wake of Facebook's privacy scandal, the Libra project faced immediate strong opposition from political and regulatory authorities, leading to the withdrawal of many partners. Although the cryptocurrency space has gradually embraced stablecoins like USDC since then, Meta's previous attempt highlighted the critical challenge of timing in technological innovation.
