The U.S. Department of Defense has designated Anthropic as posing "an unacceptable risk to national security" and argued in court filings that it has the right to disable the company's technology in military operations if the company's ethical "red lines" are breached. Previously, Anthropic sued the Department of Defense, challenging its "supply chain risk" determination and attempting to prevent its enforcement. This dispute stems from a Pentagon contract worth $200 million, with Anthropic opposing the use of its artificial intelligence for mass surveillance or lethal targeting. A hearing on Anthropic's request for an injunction is scheduled for next Tuesday.
