Interesting observation: when the price of Ethereum went even higher, up to 2.20K with a 5.49% daily increase, I decided to see what was happening in the portfolio of the person who created all of this. Vitalik Buterin and his wealth are a topic that periodically comes up in the crypto community, especially when the market is on the rise.
According to blockchain data, the current value of the founder of Ethereum’s wallet is about $1.03 billion. The distribution is interesting: the bulk is 240,042 ETH worth approximately $1.01 billion. The rest is diversified into altcoins: about 12.2 million in AETHWETH, 2.86 million in WHITE, 927 thousand in MOODENG, plus smaller positions in KNC and other tokens.
Vitalik himself was born on January 31, 1994, in Kolomna, Russia, but grew up in Canada. He started taking an interest in crypto back in 2011, when his father told him about Bitcoin. Then he wrote for Bitcoin Magazine, and at the end of 2013 he posted the idea of Ethereum. The official launch took place on July 30, 2015, after they raised 18 million in the ICO.
So what turned out to be the result? Ethereum became the second-highest market-cap cryptocurrency, launched an entire ecosystem of DeFi, NFT and decentralized applications. Buterin received the Thiel Fellowship award of (100 thousand dollars), made it into Forbes 30 Under 30 and Fortune 40 Under 40. At the same time, he remains a modest guy—he’s known for simple clothing and for focusing on technological impact rather than money.
His charity is impressive: he donated a billion dollars in Shiba Inu to fight coronavirus in India, supports medical research, helps refugees, and works on environmental protection. He is currently continuing to develop Ethereum, working on Ethereum 2.0 to increase speed and reduce energy consumption.
If we remember that when Ethereum was launched, one coin was worth just $0.31, and now we’re looking at thousands—it becomes clear why Vitalik Buterin and his wealth remain at the center of attention in the crypto community. This is a story not just about money, but about how one idea can change the entire landscape of the industry.
