Institutions: Driven by social video advertising, global online video and TV revenue will exceed $1 trillion by 2030.
Ask AI · How do social video ads reshape the trillion-dollar media market?
【Global Times Technology Composite Report】April 7—According to the latest data released by Maria Rua Aguete, head of the Media and Entertainment division at Omdia, it is expected that by 2030, global traditional TV and online video revenues will exceed $1 trillion.
Omdia analysis says the data highlights a major structural shift in the media and entertainment industry. Total revenue is expected to rise from $775 billion in 2025 to $1.03 trillion in 2030. Growth will be driven primarily by digital-format businesses, especially advertising.
Of these, online video ads will become the main growth engine, with revenue projected to increase from $309 billion in 2025 to $540 billion in 2030. Their share of total revenue will grow from 40% to 53%. In the online advertising market, social video platforms such as Meta, TikTok, and YouTube will play a decisive role, generating about $400 billion in streaming ad total revenue by 2030. This trend reflects a fundamental shift in the industry toward mobile-first strategies, short-form video, and highly personalized video experiences. Recommendation algorithms and creator ecosystems are driving large-scale user engagement and monetization.
Maria Rua Aguete analyzed: “The industry is undergoing profound change. Social video advertising is becoming the dominant force, reshaping how content is consumed and monetized. At the same time, traditional models such as linear TV and pay TV are in structural decline.” Omdia’s analysis shows that the industry’s dominant force is shifting to digital platforms, and advertising business led by social video will become the core of future growth.
