JUST IN: A new academic proposal argues that Bitcoin could neutralize selfish mining without altering its consensus mechanism or core architecture.


The approach, called inertial mining, aims to make honestly following the protocol once again the best strategy for miners, provided that no single miner controls more than half of the computing power.
The study asserts that Bitcoin's standard mining protocol is not balanced because it allows for profitable deviations such as selfish mining.
