On the early morning of the 19th local time, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued an emergency statement announcing that it had launched a large-scale missile attack against oil and energy facilities in the region related to the United States. The operation was a direct, corresponding retaliation for the attack on Iran’s energy infrastructure earlier on the 18th.

The statement said that the purpose of this retaliatory action was to target energy facilities that are “U.S.-interested parties and have U.S. shares.” It emphasized that Iran originally did not want to expand the war into the energy sector, nor did it want to harm the economies of neighboring countries, but provocations by the enemy had pushed the war into a “new phase.” The statement confirmed that Iran’s armed forces carried out multiple rounds of strikes to ensure that the losses suffered by the enemy were at the same level as the damage inflicted on Iran’s infrastructure.

The statement also warned that if the attacks continued, Iran would expand the scope of its strikes to all energy infrastructure belonging to Iran’s “U.S.-Israel ally,” until it “completely destroys” them. (CCTV News)
