Our country's second "Code" named law passes, strengthening ecological protection

According to CCTV News, the Fourth Session of the 14th National People’s Congress adopted the “Ecological and Environmental Code of the People’s Republic of China,” becoming the second law in our country named as a “code.” This code is independently compiled around content related to green and low-carbon development, integrating provisions on the circular economy, energy transition, and more, to form a framework of “pollution control—green protection—promoting transformation.” The code strengthens the law’s system-wide nature and rigidity, grants independent law-enforcement authority to the county-level ecological environment bureaus, clarifies legal responsibility for new types of illegal conduct, and increases penalties for actions such as environmental pollution. The goal is to drive changes in production and consumption practices through rule-of-law measures to prevent ecological and environmental problems from occurring.
