The Sri Lankan Navy spokesperson stated that more than 200 crew members aboard the Iranian Navy supply ship “Bushehr” have been safely evacuated by the Sri Lankan Navy near Sri Lankan territorial waters and taken to Colombo Port. It is understood that “Bushehr” is a logistics support ship of the Iranian military. The ship requested port entry from Sri Lanka due to engine failure. On March 4th, the Iranian Navy frigate “Dena,” returning from India, was sunk by a U.S. submarine off the coast of Sri Lanka, resulting in at least 87 deaths. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said on the evening of the 5th that, after detailed discussions with all parties, Sri Lanka has decided to assist another Iranian military vessel near Sri Lankan waters.
