Meta has released a closed AI model Muse Spark - ForkLog: cryptocurrencies, AI, singularity, future
Meta Corporation has introduced the Muse Spark AI model, developed by a new team of researchers at Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL).
This is the first LLM since the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, began a multi-billion-dollar reorganization of the AI division to close the gap with competitors.
The new department is led by Alexander Wang. The corporation’s head invited him as part of investment agreements with Scale AI for $14 billion. Since then, the corporation has directed huge resources to attract specialized talent and develop infrastructure.
Since then, the entrepreneur has spent billions of dollars attracting AI talent and allocated tens of billions to infrastructure.
Falling Behind Competitors
Muse Spark will serve as the foundation for Meta AI’s chatbot. The model is closed, unlike the company’s previous products, which were based on open source.
In some areas, the LLM lags behind ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, but the project is still in the early stages of implementation. The corporation emphasized that the model is only the “first stage on the road,” and more powerful solutions are under development.
Meta is focusing Muse Spark on efficiency and “competitive characteristics” when performing various tasks.
The neural network was developed over nine months and is viewed by management as a component of the updated AI strategy. Previously, the firm had been focused on open-source Llama models.
Muse Spark was trained using multiple third-party open-source tools such as Qwen from the Chinese tech giant Alibaba, as well as solutions from OpenAI and Google.
Modes of Thinking
Muse Spark offers several levels of operation: Instant (immediately), Thinking (reflection), and Contemplating (deep reflection). The latter provides answers at a scientific level. Its integration into the Meta AI app and the web version will be rolled out gradually.
Contemplating uses a group of agents for “parallel thinking.” Users can switch between modes depending on the specifics of the request.
In addition, Meta is testing new ways to monetize by offering third-party developers access to the underlying Muse Spark technology via an API.
The company said that the updated version of Meta AI will add a dedicated “Shopping” mode to help users choose and purchase clothing.
Recall that in February, Meta introduced the AI feature Dear Algo. It allows Threads users to personalize content recommendation algorithms.
