Adam Back, the person believed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, speaks out: “Satoshi will only appear if these two conditions are met.” Adam Back, the inventor of the Proof of Work system – the foundation of Bitcoin (BTC) and CEO of Blockstream, has ended the debate surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity, the biggest mystery in the cryptocurrency world. Once again, he firmly denies claims that he is Satoshi, and argues that the anonymity of Bitcoin’s creator is an advantage for the system. In the interview, Back explains his connection to Satoshi, recalling that Bitcoin’s technical document (white paper) mentions the Hashcash system he developed himself. Back said, “I believe I was the first to receive an email from Satoshi in August 2008. He mentioned a system I designed ten years earlier,” indicating that he only had professional contact with the founder. According to Back, Satoshi’s digital trail disappeared when he withdrew from forums in 2011-2012. The renowned cryptographer states that no new data has been updated in 14 years, and all current claims are just speculation and linguistic analysis. He predicts that Satoshi’s identity can only be revealed in two specific cases:

  • Notable spending habits of the heir after inheriting assets.
  • In the future, they will need to carry coins to prevent threats from quantum computers. Adam Back argues that Satoshi Nakamoto’s disappearance is actually a major strength that sets Bitcoin apart from other assets. He believes Bitcoin should not be regarded as a company or startup with a CEO, and adds: “Having a figure like Elon Musk or Linux founder Linus Torvalds at the helm would cause people to constantly seek their opinions or request system changes. Bitcoin’s decentralized and neutral nature makes it more easily accepted as a global currency.” When asked whether he has increased his personal security after claims that he is Satoshi, Back cited kidnapping and violence incidents in the cryptocurrency world. He affirmed that security is now a matter of particular concern for senior leaders in the field.
