In local time on the 7th, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying that at 8:55 a.m., the Iraqi special forces successfully intercepted a drone attempting to attack the radar system of the special forces’ detachment stationed at the Asad Air Force Base in western Anbar Province. The drone was “of unknown origin.” After it was shot down, it did not explode, preventing casualties and property damage. The statement noted that Asad Air Force Base is an Iraqi military base, and all units stationed at the base are under the Iraqi Ministry of Defense. All equipment within the base belongs to the Iraqi armed forces. Such attacks harm national interests and endanger the lives of soldiers and military personnel responsible for maintaining the safety and security of Iraq and its people. The statement reaffirmed that for any force targeting Iraqi Ministry of Defense facilities or personnel, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense has the right to respond with retaliation. (CCTV News)
