Today, the China Meteorological Administration announced that the “Spring Rains” weather modification operation has been launched. Meteorological departments at the national and provincial levels are coordinating to carry out regular cross-regional artificial rain (snow) enhancement operations in the Northwest and North China regions at appropriate times. It is understood that currently, during the critical period of spring agricultural production, the “Spring Rains” initiative focuses on drought relief through rain (snow) enhancement, ensuring water supply for spring plowing and sowing, aiding ecological environment improvement and restoration, and coordinating aerial and ground operations in the Northwest and North China regions. A total of 19 artificial rain enhancement aircraft are planned to be deployed, organizing multiple waves of joint air-ground operations based on drought conditions and precipitation data. As of now, the “Spring Rains” operation has completed three joint weather modification missions, affecting an area of approximately 979.3k square kilometers, with a total increase in precipitation of about 129 million tons, playing a positive role in promoting crop greening, improving soil moisture, and reducing forest fire risk levels. The action will continue until April 30. Subsequently, the “Summer Peace,” “Autumn Harvest,” and “Winter Clear” operations will be carried out in an orderly manner in regions such as Southwest China, Central China, and East China, focusing on strong convective weather defense, reservoir water storage enhancement, and fog removal at ports.
