BSI Shi Mulan was invited to attend the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum and deliver a keynote speech
Beijing April 1, 2026 /PR Newswire/ – As a well-known platform in China for global technological innovation exchange and cooperation, the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference was held in Beijing from March 25 to 29, gathering over a thousand guests from more than 100 countries and regions. The event featured in-depth dialogues centered around the theme “Deep Integration of Technological Innovation and Industrial Innovation.”
At this gathering of global wisdom, Ms. Tatiana Schmollack-Tarasova, Managing Director of BSI Greater China, was invited to attend the Standardization and Technological Innovation Development Forum and delivered a speech on the theme “How International Standards Help High-Quality Overseas Expansion of New-Generation Chinese Enterprises.”

Standardization and Technological Innovation Development Forum
In her keynote speech, Ms. Tatiana Schmollack-Tarasova first introduced the latest trends in the global standardization field. The SMART standards initiative, jointly led by ISO and IEC, is promoting the evolution of standards from traditional paper texts to machine-readable, interactive, and intelligent forms. This aims to serve diverse scenarios of human-machine collaboration more efficiently and intelligently, bringing profound changes to future standard application methods.
Regarding sustainable development, she introduced BSI’s current work on developing the “Net Zero Standard.” BSI has led the international development of the “ISO Net Zero Guidelines” (IWA 42), which was officially released at COP27, the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The guideline provides credible best practices to help organizations formulate comprehensive net-zero strategies. Currently, the “Net Zero Guidelines” are being upgraded to an ISO standard—“Net Zero Standard”—which is expected to be officially published in 2026.

Facing the challenge of rapid technological iteration, BSI has launched a flexible standard mechanism called “BSI Flex,” capable of responding quickly to emerging technological needs and addressing the long cycle of traditional standard development. Using fields such as autonomous driving, public charging stations, future flying systems, and hydrogen fuel heavy-duty vehicles as examples, she demonstrated how standards can serve as important catalysts for technological innovation and industry collaboration.
At the end of her speech, Ms. Tatiana Schmollack-Tarasova pointed out that Chinese enterprises are undergoing a critical transformation from “standard implementers” to “agenda setters.” In this regard, she proposed four suggestions: first, deepen international multi-party cooperation and promote joint R&D; second, focus on solving practical problems and demonstrate the practical value of standards in specific application scenarios; third, validate the value of standards through overseas pilot practices; and fourth, actively adopt internationally accepted standard frameworks in sensitive areas such as data privacy and cybersecurity to enhance global market trust.
BSI will continue to work with Chinese enterprises and standard organizations, leveraging innovative mechanisms such as SMART digital standards, Net Zero standards, and BSI Flex flexible standards to help Chinese industries achieve high-quality and sustainable development in the process of globalization.
Deepening Cooperation and Building a Standard Ecosystem
During the forum, BSI and the Beijing Standardization Association officially signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. Both parties will deepen cooperation around key areas such as digital transformation, intelligent manufacturing, and green low-carbon development, promoting the integration and application of standards in industrial upgrading and sustainable development. This signing marks a new stage in BSI’s collaboration with the Beijing Standardization Association in standard coordination, technical exchange, and industry implementation, laying a solid foundation for pragmatic cooperation in key fields.
