On March 12, 2026, Zhai Jun, China’s Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, met with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Zayani in Manama. Zayani said that Bahrain has always cherished peace and is committed to achieving regional peace, stability, development, and prosperity through dialogue and reconciliation, and should not be subjected to baseless attacks. Iran should respond to calls from the international community, immediately stop attacks on Gulf Arab countries, and ensure the safety and smooth passage of international waterways. The Bahraini side highly appreciates China’s just position, welcomes China’s special envoy’s efforts to shuttle between sides in the region to mediate, and is willing to work together with China to help bring about an early ceasefire and restore stability and peace in the region.

Zhai Jun said that China has consistently advocated resolving regional issues through dialogue and consultation and opposes the use of force whenever and however. We believe that the red line of protecting civilians in military conflicts must not be crossed; non-military targets such as energy, the economy, and people’s livelihoods should not be attacked; the security of waterways should not be disrupted; and indiscriminate use of force is unacceptable. With the current regional tensions continuing to escalate, it does not serve the interests of any party. The top priority is to immediately stop military operations and prevent the fighting from spreading further. China attaches importance to the reasonable security concerns of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries such as Bahrain. China appreciates the Bahraini side’s responsible attitude of staying calm and exercising restraint since the outbreak of the conflict, and is willing to continue maintaining close communication and coordination with Bahrain to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region.(Ministry of Foreign Affairs website)
