NASA announced on the 18th that two American astronauts completed a spacewalk today to install solar array modification kits on the International Space Station, and safely returned to the station after about 7 hours outside.
The two spacewalkers are Jessica Meir and Chris Williams, who completed key objectives including preparing for the modification of the 2A power channel to facilitate the installation of roll-out solar arrays, thereby providing more power to the station and ensuring the operation of critical systems and controlled deorbit maneuvers.
In addition, they also installed cross-connect cables for the 2A power system and adjusted bolt torque on battery boxes.
This was Williams’ first spacewalk and Meir’s fourth.
Williams arrived at the International Space Station in November 2025 aboard the Russian “Soyuz MS-28” spacecraft, while Meir arrived in February 2026 aboard SpaceX’s “Crew Dragon” spacecraft.
