Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated on March 31 that due to ongoing turmoil in the Middle East and increasing global uncertainties, Indonesia will introduce a series of energy-saving measures to reduce fuel consumption and enhance economic resilience.
At a press conference held that day, Airlangga said that starting April 1, government officials at central and local levels in Indonesia will work from home one day a week to promote energy conservation and improve travel efficiency, while maintaining economic stability.
The Indonesian government also encourages the private sector to implement energy-saving measures at workplaces according to industry needs and calls on the public to develop energy-saving habits in daily life and work.
Airlangga stated that to further reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the Indonesian government will implement a policy starting July 1, 2026, mandating a 50% blending of palm oil-based biofuel into fossil diesel.
Additionally, from April 1, 2026, Indonesia will impose purchase limits on subsidized fuel priced by the government, with private cars limited to a maximum of 50 liters per day. (Xinhua)
