NASA said on the 18th that two U.S. astronauts on the International Space Station completed a spacewalk that day, installing a solar array retrofit kit for the station. They returned safely to the space station about 7 hours after exiting the spacecraft.

According to the briefing, the two extravehicular astronauts were Jessica Meir and Chris Williams. During this spacewalk, they completed the main objectives, including preparing for modifications to the station’s 2A power channel so that the next step—installation of a roll-out solar array—could be carried out, thereby providing the station with more power to support the operation of critical systems and safe, controlled deorbit maneuvers.

In addition, the two completed tasks including installing 2A power system cross-connection cables and adjusting the bolt torque on the battery box. This was Williams’ first spacewalk and Meir’s fourth.

Williams arrived at the International Space Station in November 2025 aboard the Russian “Soyuz MS-28” crewed spacecraft. Meir arrived at the space station in February 2026 aboard SpaceX’s “Dragon” spacecraft. (CCTV News)
