Trump: The Strait of Hormuz Will “Reopen Soon”
On April 11, U.S. President Trump said the U.S. will “reopen” the Strait of Hormuz “soon,” but also admitted that the relevant actions “will not be easy,” without disclosing the specific execution path.
Trump said that other countries have already indicated their willingness to assist in safeguarding the strait’s navigation safety, but did not specify the specific parties involved. Earlier reports said that NATO had already held discussions internally on assisting in maintaining the security of this critical waterway.
As one of the world’s most important energy transportation corridors, the Strait of Hormuz accounts for about 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas transportation. Since Iran blockaded the strait, global energy supplies have been severely disrupted, oil prices have fluctuated significantly, and market uncertainty has continued to rise.
Although the U.S. and Iran have announced a temporary ceasefire, shipping through the strait is still basically at a standstill, and the progress toward resumption still depends on subsequent security arrangements and the evolution of the geopolitical situation.$ETH
