I noticed that Bitcoin is about to break the $73 thousand mark, and open interest in futures is growing rapidly. This clearly indicates that traders are actively leveraging, betting on further growth. Usually, when open interest jumps so sharply, it means that many new positions have appeared in the market — people are clearly confident in the continuation of the upward movement.
But the thing is, with such high open interest, the market becomes more unstable. If an unexpected decline occurs, all these leveraged positions will start to be liquidated, which could trigger a quite sharp pullback. Therefore, although open interest indicates a bullish sentiment, it’s important to remember that it can also serve as a trigger for a correction.
Now is the perfect time to monitor these metrics — they often hint when the market is preparing for a reversal.
