French soldiers killed and wounded in Iraq, Macron says "Unacceptable"

French President Macron posted on social media early on the 13th that a French soldier was killed in an attack in the Erbil region of Iraq, and that “several soldiers” were injured. Macron said the attack targeted French forces involved in fighting the extremist organization “Islamic State” since 2015, which is “unacceptable.” The French military’s presence in Iraq is solely “to combat terrorism,” and conflicts related to Iran cannot be used as a reason to launch attacks.
According to earlier reports from French media citing French military sources, six French soldiers were injured in a drone attack in the Erbil region on the 12th. Recently, a military base in Erbil operated by Italy was also attacked, but no casualties occurred. (Xinhua News Agency)
