Just realized a lot of people don't know the proper way to update their SASSA banking details and it's actually pretty important. If you're getting permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), you literally have to go to the office in person - can't do it online unfortunately. You'll need your ID and proof of your new bank account (like a bank statement from the last 3 months or a letter from the bank). They'll give you a Payment Method Change Form to fill out, and then it takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify everything. Pro tip: if you want the new details to work for next month's payment, you gotta submit before the 15th of the current month or it'll be another cycle with the old account.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's different - you can actually do the banking details update online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you update your account details through that secure link. Takes a few days to weeks for verification. Just make sure the account is in your name, not someone else's - they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that.

Cellphone number changes work similarly depending on which grant you're on. For SRD, there's a dedicated contact details page where you input your ID and Application ID, enter the new number, and they send an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, best bet is calling the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visiting your local office. One thing - be careful about fake websites trying to get your info. Always use the official SASSA links, not random sites claiming to update your status check details. The official channels are way safer.
