The Russian side stated that the mastermind behind the explosion of the Serbia-Hungary gas pipeline has not yet been identified.

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 7 — Regarding the discovery of explosives near the Serbia-Hungary border gas pipeline, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Peskov responded on the 6th that there is currently no reliable evidence indicating who the mastermind is.
RIA Novosti quoted Peskov as saying that the pipeline “is currently operating under high tension,” and Russia is “taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of the infrastructure.”
Peskov said that Russia’s natural gas pipelines to overseas have previously been attacked by Ukraine. He also stated that Russia hopes both Hungary and Serbia will do their best to reduce the security threats faced by the Russian gas pipelines.
Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán said on the 5th that Serbian President Vučić told him that explosives were found near a pipeline transporting Russian natural gas close to the Hungarian border.
Orbán described it as an act of “deliberate sabotage” aimed at destroying the pipeline. He did not directly accuse Ukraine of involvement but said that Ukraine has tried for years to cut off Russia’s energy supplies to Europe. He stated that both Hungary and Serbia have now strengthened protection of the pipeline.
Serbian Military Intelligence Director Juro Juhic revealed that there is information indicating that a “person from the immigrant community, who has received military training,” attempted to target the natural gas infrastructure, and relevant authorities are searching for this individual.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgiy Zakharchenko responded that Ukraine is not involved in this matter, calling it “most likely a Russian framing and a serious interference by Russia in Hungary’s elections.”
Hungary will hold parliamentary elections on the 12th of this month.
Recent tensions between Hungary and Ukraine have worsened. Since January 27, the “Friendship” pipeline, which transports crude oil from Russia through Ukraine to Hungary, Slovakia, and other countries, has been suspended due to an attack. Hungary accused Ukraine of deliberately delaying the pipeline’s reopening for political reasons and blocking the EU’s €90 billion aid loan to Ukraine. Ukraine denied the accusations, insisting that repairing the pipeline takes time. (Wang Yixin)
