Just realized a lot of people still don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details, especially with the December payments coming up. If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you literally have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office—no shortcuts online. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months), and they'll process it there. Takes up to 21 working days after that, so if you want it sorted for next month, submit before the 15th or you're waiting another cycle.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's all online through their portal, which is actually way smoother. You input your ID, they SMS you a secure link, and you update your banking details that way. Same rule applies—account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts. One thing that's been sketchy lately: there are fake SASSA websites popping up claiming they can update your details. Don't fall for it. Always use the official portal.

Also need to update your phone number? Same deal—permanent grants require a visit or call to 0800 60 10 11, but SRD grants have their own contact portal where you enter your ID and Application ID, then they send an OTP to verify. The banking update process is pretty straightforward once you know what docs to bring, but honestly, a lot of people are still getting caught out by outdated info or those dodgy third-party sites. Just go official and you're golden.
