Just realized a lot of people still struggling with updating their SASSA details, especially the banking info. If you're on permanent grants like old age or disability, honestly you can't do it online - gotta go to the office in person. They'll give you a form to fill out, you need your ID and proof of your new bank account (stamped statement or letter from the bank, nothing older than 3 months). The whole thing takes up to 21 working days to process, so if you want it done by next month you need to submit before the 15th. Miss that deadline and they'll keep paying into your old account for another cycle.
Now if you're on the SRD R350 grant, that's different - they made it electronic only since it's meant to be quick. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your bank details right there. The r350 bank details update process is way smoother than the permanent grants honestly. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify everything though.
For the cellphone number, same deal - permanent grants you gotta visit the office or call 0800 60 10 11. But SRD grants have their own online portal where you enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, get an OTP sent to verify it. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website, not some random link claiming to help - there's been scams going around targeting people trying to update their grant info.
Anyone else had issues with this process or is it just me?
