Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their banking details for the R350 SRD grant and it's causing payment delays. If you're on the SRD grant, you can actually do it all online through the official portal - way easier than going to a SASSA office. You'll need your ID number and they'll send you a secure link via SMS to verify everything. The thing is, the account has to be in your name, no joint accounts or anything like that, otherwise they won't process it.

For the permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), it's different - you have to go in person with your ID and bank statement. Takes up to 21 working days to process. Also, if you're thinking about changing your phone number, do it sooner rather than later because that's how they send you payment notifications and verification codes. I've seen people miss payments because their old number wasn't working anymore. Pro tip: submit any changes before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next payment cycle. Anyone else had issues with SASSA updates?
